Yes, Wagga Wagga has a real beach!
Wagga Beach is a golden, sandy bend in the Murrumbidgee River on Wiradyuri Country in Southern NSW.
Tourism Australia's Beach Ambassador Brad Farmer named it the nation's 9th Best Beach in 2020 and subsequently doubled down in 2023 to declare "Wagga Beach Australia's number 1 inland beach in perpetuity".
The beach remains a popular, natural, attraction in Wagga Wagga boasting great river access, plenty of grassed, shady spots for a picnic, sheltered barbecue areas, one of Australia's best playgrounds, food and drink vans, sculptures, event spaces and seats to just sit and watch the world go by.
Popular with swimmers, kayakers, 'Gumi' floaters and sunseekers; locals also know the secret of the 5 O'Clock wave that draws adventurers to the shores each afternoon through summer.
